Benny Blanco recently expressed his desire to have babies with Selena Gomez, but the pop star says she had different plans before meeting her current beau.

In fact, the Only Murders in the Building star was convinced she was going to adopt to become a mother, though her plans seem to have changed.

During an interview conducted by Time, Selena shared insights into the period of solitude she embraced before embarking on her current romantic journey with the music producer.

Selena Once Thought She’s Adopt As A Single Mom

“I was alone for five years, and I got really used to it,” expressed Gomez to the magazine. “A lot of people are afraid of being alone, and I probably tortured myself in my head for like two years being alone, and then I kind of accepted it.”

The singer confessed that during her solitary phase, she contemplated a future as a parent without a significant other. “Then I came up with my plan,” she elaborated. “Which was I was going to adopt at 35 if I had not met anyone.”

Benny and Selena went public with their relationship in December 2023. Though it’s been marred with some controversy – including Benny’s controversial past coming back to haunt him – the two haven’t been shy to let the world know they’re serious about one another. Before her Time interview, Benny said he fully hopes to start a family with Selena one day.

Benny Is Open About Wanting Kids With Selena

“I want to have kids,” he said on The Howard Stern Show earlier this month. “That’s the next goal, to check the box. I have a ton of godkids, I’ve got a ton of nephews. I love being around kids.”

When questioned about the possibility of marrying Selena, Benny opted for a playful response, confessing his lack of readiness. “I don’t have anything,” quipped Benny. “I got no shoes on. I gotta get my act together!”

However, one thing he expressed certainty about was his affection for the Wizards of Waverly Place alum, which he later elucidated during the conversation. “When I do look at her,” he affirmed, “I’m always like, ‘I don’t know a world where it could be better than this.’”

Despite their past collaborations, some fans have labelled Selena and Benny an unconventional match. Even Blanco himself confessed he didn’t anticipate having a chance with the singer. He admitted he failed to realize their initial outing was, in fact, a date.

“It was so crazy. When we went out on our first date, I didn’t even know it was a date,” he recounted elsewhere in the interview. “I remember sitting there and she’s like, ‘Well, I would have worn something different for this date,’” the musician continued. “What?! We’re on a date?!”

While speaking to Time, Selena addressed Benny’s comments about kids, suggesting they’re on the same page. “He can’t lie to save his life. If he’s asked a question, he’ll answer it,” she said.

“I know what people can do to people I love. My own fans, who I adore and feel like have shaped who I am, will say the most hurtful things to me about how I live my life,” she continued. “But he has the strength in him that none of that noise fazes him. It’s really impressive, and I just cherish every moment with him. I don’t know what the future holds, but I do know that he’s not going anywhere any time soon.”

Regardless of what fans say, Selena is clearly head-over-heels for Benny!
