Elon Musk unveils a revolutionary vehicle: the modular Tesla rover inspired by the Cybertruck that will conquer Mars
Humans’ desire to set foot on another planet, even to make it their home, is not far off, as visionaries like Eloisa Musk are convinced of their goal of colonizing Mars in the coming decades. More than a pipe dream, the first foundations have been laid by NASA’s missions to the red planet, the most recent of which is the Perseverance probe. While explorers scan the Earth’s surface for signs of water and other intricate details for future missions, here on Earth, imaginative designers are unleashing their creativity to show us what the future could look like.
This insect-shaped rover, which looks like the big daddy of the compact Mars rovers we’ve seen over the years, is, in fact, a waste disposal vehicle for the harsh terrain of the red planet. Called the D25 Modular Rover, the design comes courtesy of Joshúa Cotter, who has reimagined the form and functionality of a vehicle to make it look tailor-made for the rugged landscape and harsh weather conditions of Mars. The three-part vehicle is made from a modular platform chassis that is electrically powered, has a crew module in the cabin, and the main waste disposal module. While the former and latter are a warranty of the vehicle, the waste disposal module can be swapped out with other customizable modules depending on the needs.
Joshua gives the modular rover a very optimistic character that aligns with NASA, Tesla, and SpaceX. The sleek aesthetic, similar to that of the Cybertruck, is evident on the rover as it is designed to climb abrasive terrain commonly found on the surface. The module could also be prepared for reconnaissance missions should an alien species decide to have first rights to the surface. Who knows what the future holds for humanity, in the near future where we will encounter other life forms in the galaxy and our universe? The D25 Modular Rover seems prepared for that future!
