Joy Reid and her show, The ReidOut, is leaving MSNBC amid the recent ongoing shakeups in television news.

On Monday, Feb. 24, MSNBC’s new president Rebecca Kulter announced that the longtime journalist, 56, would be exiting the network in a memo sent to staff.

“Joy Reid is leaving the network and we thank her for her countless contributions over the years,” Culter wrote in a statement. “Her work has been recognized with several esteemed honors, including most recently, the 2025 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding News Series.”

She added that rotating anchors will fill in Reid’s 7 p.m. ET slot in the coming weeks. Symone Sanders Townsend, Michael Steele, and Alicia Menendez, current hosts of The Weekend, will now move to weekdays at 7 p.m. to host a new ensemble hour of news.

The ReidOut became an evening mainstay on MSNBC since its 2020 inception and saw the political commentator hold extensive interviews with politicians and other public figures.

After reports of the newscast’s cancellation began circulating over the weekend, Reid addressed the speculation in a statement shared to BlueSky and Instagram just after midnight prior to the memo.

“I just want to say thank you to everyone who has reached out with kindness and encouragement, both personally and in these social media streets,” Reid said. “So very proud of The Reidout @joy.msnbc.com team, who are truly family, and all of our supporters & friends. See you tomorrow night at 7, one more time.”

The news of Reid’s departure comes hours after longtime NBC Nightly News anchor Lester Holt announced he would be exiting the show this summer after more than 10 years.

In a memo to Nightly and Dateline staff, the 65-year-old wrote, “A smile comes to my face when I think that with Nightly News, and Dateline, I have now anchored two of the most successful and iconic television news programs in broadcast history.”

“As a 20-year-old radio reporter on the police beat chasing breaking news around San Francisco, I could never have imagined my career path would unfold in the way it has. What an amazing ride.”

Reid and Holt aren’t the only journalists who have been caught in industry reshuffles on Monday.

A source told The New York Post that Ayman Mohyeldin, Katie Phang and Jonathan Capehart will reportedly have their weekend shows, Ayman Mohyeldin ReportsThe Katie Phang Show and The Sunday Show With Jonathan Capehart cancelled.

Despite this, Mohyeldin, Phang and Capehart will remain at the network, with the former and the latter moving to host the morning and evening editions of The Weekend on Saturdays and Sundays at 7 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Phang, on the other hand, will stay on as a legal correspondent.
