During the conversation, Legend told his oldest child that “the most pure love you can have, is the love you have for your family.”
John Legend and Chrissy Teigen’s daughter Luna tried her hand at journalism when she interviewed her dad about his new children’s album “My Favorite Dream.”
Luna, 8, dressed up in a light blue outfit to conduct the video interview, shared by Billboard on Dec. 26, as she sat across from her dad with question cards bigger than her head.
The conversation centered around Legend’s new album, but is chock-full of cute moments between the father-daughter duo.
Legend told his oldest child that his favorite song on “My Favorite Dream,” which came out in August, is “Always Come Back.”
“I wrote it for you guys,” he said, addressing his family. “And I have to travel a lot for work, mommy has to go away for work sometimes, but we’ve always been telling you since you were a little baby that mommy and daddy always come back.
“When I wrote that song, it was very emotional for me because the day I wrote it, I was actually leaving to go away for a while and I played it for you guys, and so it will always have that sentimental feeling,” he continued.
Luna, disregarding the cue cards, asked Legend if he’s referring to the time he left for two weeks.
Legend responded with “maybe,” adding that he tries not to be gone for more than that because it feels “so long.” He added that it’s often difficult for him to leave his family, but that the song comforts him.
He then flipped the questions around on his daughter, asking her what her favorite song on the album is.
Luna told him she has three: “Always Come Back,” “L-O-V-E” and his version of Bob Marley and the Wailers’ “Three Little Birds.”
“Those are the ones that I drew,” she said, and Legend clarified that Luna designed all the single covers for the album.
She said she had fun drawing the cover art, and Legend added that Luna’s design for “L-O-V-E” has been turned into sweatshirts.
“So, we’ve got to get some hoodies for the family,” he said.
Luna clarified that even if she hadn’t designed the cover art, “Always Come Back” would still be her favorite song — like father, like daughter.
“When I first played it for Luna, like she just snuggled me a little tighter and I was like ‘Aw,'” Legend explained to the camera, making a crying face. “I got emotional.”

Not only is Luna a budding journalist and designer, but she already has a singing credit under her belt as she, her mom and her brother Miles, 6, sing in “L-O-V-E.”
“It was fun,” she said of doing the song, adding that recording it was “in between” easy and hard.
“My Favorite Dream” has been nominated for a Grammy, making it the first time Legend has ever been nominated for best children’s music album.
“I was so excited, honestly, I didn’t know what to expect,” he told Luna in the Billboard video, before explaining how the Grammy voting process works.

“I’ve never gotten an award in the children’s album category, so it was pretty cool and unexpected,” he added.
Legend said he would be “so happy” if he wins, telling Luna, “It would mean that I won something for an album that I made for you guys and inspired by you guys.”
He continued, saying, “I think it’s like the most pure love you can have, is the love you have for your family.”
