The star of “Black Widow,” born in 1984, is now a mother of two. She has a 9-year-old daughter with her ex-husband Romain Dauriac, and a 2-year-old son with comedian Colin Jost from “Saturday Night Live,” whom she married in 2020.

“When my daughter was 2, I thought, ‘Wow, this is magical.’ Then when she turned 3, I was like, ‘Oh my God, this is insane. The change is so intense for me. My emotions are up and down constantly,'” the actress said.

From her experience, Johansson found that nothing she did during that time could be acceptable to her 3-year-old.

She candidly expressed, “I’ve been very sad facing a child who’s just learning to walk, like everything I do is wrong, it’s been very hard.”

Although her daughter is now older, Johansson revealed that family life is still full of ups and downs.

The actress, also the founder of the skincare line The Outset, noted, “My life is unbalanced. Right now I’m still looking for any kind of balance to improve the situation.”

After giving birth, Johansson said her perspective had also changed, especially as she prioritized family projects and work.

She said, “Your perspective definitely changes, but it helps you, it helps parts of your life fall into place. I think when you have a whole list of tasks to prioritize, your mobility is inconvenienced. And that’s a big change.”

In a recent appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, the 40-year-old actress answered questions from her colleague Drew Barrymore. During the interview, she admitted, “It seems like my daughter has asked me about this before. I used to smoke when I was younger, and I’m really embarrassed about it. I just don’t want her to think that I thought smoking was cool. Honestly, I don’t want her to repeat my behavior from when I was young.”

“It’s strange to forbid your child from doing things that you’ve done yourself. That’s why I feel embarrassed, and I never want my kids to know these secrets,” Johansson shared.

She also revealed, “My daughter once asked me: Why do you pluck your eyebrows? Why do you curl your eyelashes? What are sanitary pads for? What are they used for?… I prefer answering questions like these.”

Although Rose, Johansson’s daughter, has reached an age of curiosity about many things, Johansson admitted that she hasn’t shown much interest in her younger brother.

“She’s just adapting and adjusting to so many things happening in life. She has a very active social communication network, so she hasn’t had time to focus on her little brother,” Johansson shared in an interview with Jimmy Fallon on an episode of The Tonight Show.
