The Boston Red Sox wish to get out of their three-year slump of not making it to the postseason by improving their roster this offseason. In pursuit of that, one of the most obvious decisions is to sign the free agent and first baseman Alex Bregman, right after they’ve successfully made a trade for Garrett Crochet.

Former Yankees coach Sean Casey has highlighted Alex Bregman as the perfect fit for the Boston Red Sox. He also pointed out that the team could afford Bregman, especially since they were willing to commit $700 million to pursue Juan Soto.

“I think Bregman’s a perfect fit for the Red Sox, I really do. I think they want to spend money, they put a they put their best foot forward, I think they were at 700 million for Soto so they were looking to spend some money,” Casey said. “They’re looking to get them back to being the Red Sox you know, I mean they they got Crochet in that rotation, they have some good young pitching there but when you look at that team they still need some pieces.”

“And if you could move Devers over to first base, I mean you have a little bit because you got Triston Casas who’s still great, was hurt most of the last year.”

Casey added:

” Yeah I mean that swing just makes total sense, he’s a big pool guy you know and I played there in Boston with that monster, for me, it was perfect too because like just hitting a nice fly all to left field gets you a hit. So he’s going to be a better player there at Fenway and I think the metrics show it.”

Moreover, Alex Bregman’s agent, Scott Boras, also claimed in November that under the right conditions, the first baseman is open to playing at second base. The Red Sox can utilize this claim to their advantage..
