Rick Ross is due for some pissed-off Nextdoor posts aimed in his direction — the rapper’s pet buffaloes have reportedly escaped his 280-acre Promise Land estate in Georgia and are roaming his neighbourhood, causing damage to nearby properties.

The Fayetteville ranch where the musician born William Leonard Roberts II calls home is evidently not enough space for his belongings, including the bison — one of whom is importantly named Timbuktu. According to TMZ, the animals have broken free to munch on the rapper’s neighbours’ lawns.

UPDATE (3/21, 10:33 a.m. ET): Roberts has shared a statement to his Instagram Stories, sharing advice with those encountering his buffaloes in the wild: “Give it a carrot. Give it a apple.”

“Everybody that’s wanting a statement and a response for my bulls, my cows, a couple of buffaloes that got away in the community, this is my response,” he says in the clip. “I always return stray animals. Make sure you always keep a collar on your animal. And mine don’t have a collar ’cause you know it’s mines.”

The artist continued: “They so kind, they so peaceful. Thank everybody for watching. Thank everybody for making sure all of my animals got back into the Promise Land. … All my neighbours, Fayetteville, y’all the best.”

The Fayette County Sherriff’s Office has also shared a statement about the roaming animals: “As captivating as these animals are, we encourage everyone to use caution if they were to encounter them. Although they are mostly docile, they can be unpredictable and possibly become aggressive. If you happen to encounter the buffalo, we encourage you to contact the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.”

While the unsolicited landscaping is understandably annoying, a neighbour said she’s mainly concerned for her children’s safety. When she approached Roberts to deal with the matter in person, she said a verbal dispute with his team ensued. The neighbour then brought the complaint to local police, but was advised that the matter was a civil dispute and could not file a report.

As Rolling Stone points out, it’s been about a year since Roberts’s Ethika clothing line business partner Darius Burton gave him the animals as a belated birthday present. “I wanted to get him a giraffe but he wasn’t ready for that commitment so he said let’s start smaller, like a cow,” Burton said. “I said nah, everyone has cows, I want you to have something nobody in your state has, I’m getting you a buffalo.”
