Def Squad star, Redman recently shared the story behind his 2000 collaboration with Eminem, “Off the Wall”, and discussed the possibility of teaming up with Slim Shady again in the future.

In a recent interview with Red Bull 1520, legendary rapper Redman revisited the making of “Off the Wall”, his explosive 2000 collaboration with Eminem for “The Nutty Professor II: The Klumps” soundtrack. The track marked a unique meeting of lyrical heavyweights, set to an Eric Sermon beat, and was crafted in Eminem’s modest studio during his early rise.

We did “Off the Wall”. I want to Em’s studio. It wasn’t a big studio, Em was just coming up. So, we sitting here in his studio, we were like, alright, this is the beat, it was an Eric Sermon beat. We just went at it. He went in one room, I went in one room, and we were just pop-pop-pop-pop-pop, back and forth. And then we laid the record.

Redman revealed that he has been eager to reunite with Eminem for another track but understands the timing has not aligned yet.

I’ve reached out a couple of times, like, “Yo, Em, just send me any beat that you’ve got lyrics on and you don’t like it. I will make it a hit”. That’s how bad I want to get another record done with him. But I understand the politics of it. It’s just about timing.

While a new collaboration is not in the works just yet, Redman’s enthusiasm highlights the respect and creative energy that made “Off the Wall” such a memorable track. Fans can only hope that timing will one day bring these two rap titans back into the studio together.
