‘Pressure clubs put on players’: Journalist blames Barca for Yamal being substituted against Switzerland

Lamine Yamal produced an impressive performance in Spain’s 4-1 win over Switzerland in the UEFA Nations League clash on Sunday (September 8).

The Barcelona winger produced an assist in the first half and created a few big scoring chances before being taken off at halftime.

This has infuriated Spanish journalist Julio Pulido, who ranted on Gol Play: “I don’t understand why Lamine, who was the best player in the first half, was taken off.

“The only reason I can think of is the pressure that clubs put on their players not to play too much. I can’t find any other explanation. Can someone explain to me why he was substituted?”

The reality is that Yamal’s substitution had nothing to do with Barca. He was taken off because Spain were already cruising with a 2-0 lead and there wasn’t really a need for the magic that the Yamal usually brings.

Hansi Flick will at least be happy that his star winger will be able to return to action for Barca without any injuries for the key games ahead after the international break.
