After initially failing to recognize the Argentine maestro, 24-year-old Santiago Alberione found the courage to approach him and even had the Barcelona player autograph his shirt.

Messi, 31, was observed by Alberione in the Barcelona district of Castelldefels, where the Argentine sensation resides.

On a black background, the forward wore a pair of gaudy D&G trackies with red and white graffiti.

“I got to Castelldefels at about nine in the morning,” Alberione wrote. As I approached my stop, I noticed a dwarf wearing odd pants crossing the street.

“When I told myself, ‘Here comes ‘La Pulga,’ yes it is Messi!’ my voice sounded weird, my throat became dry, and my heart leaped to eight beats per second.”

I then respectfully requested him to take a picture with me, first apologizing if I was encroaching on his personal space.

He smiled and assured me that it wasn’t bothersome, so I could.

Before departing, Alberione claims that Messi signed his shirt for him. He called the day “an unforgettable day,” claiming that the “60 seconds” seemed to drag on forever.

It appears that the Argentine maestro has moved past the disappointment of Barcelona’s Champions League elimination.
