Neither Lionel Messi nor Cristiano Ronaldo have been shortlisted for the 2024 Ballon d’Or.
This has happened for the first time since 2003.
Messi currently plays for Inter Miami. Despite winning the 2024 Copa America and being quite prolific in the Major League Soccer, he picked up several injuries last season and was out of action for a long time.
Ronaldo is also very prolific for Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr, but he didn’t win anything with the club or with the national team last season.
