To transform the grand but troubled estate into 12 apartments, a project he believes would be more financially viable. “It is an incredible property, but it should have been split into two separate properties,” Fiddes explained. “My wife and I have spoken with Knight Frank, and it is perfect for conversion. We would rent out the units and generate substantial revenue.”

A Personal Connection to North Devon

Beyond financial motives, Fiddes’ attachment to the location is deeply personal. Having spent childhood holidays in Croyde, he has fond memories of the area and wishes to return to his roots. “My family saved up to go there, and it was in Croyde that I first mapped out my plans for my martial arts school. I would love to return and be part of the community again.”

A Controversial Plan

However, local residents have mixed feelings about the fate of Chesil Cliff House. Many believe the mansion should be demolished due to its turbulent history. Acknowledging this sentiment, Fiddes has expressed his willingness to consult with the local council before proceeding. “I know the leader of the local council, and I want to explain my plans. If the community strongly opposes it, I won’t go ahead. The place holds sentimental value for me, and I want to ensure that any development benefits the local area.”
