Deco: ‘Fans want new signings every year, but clubs don’t have to make them. We did what we had to do’

“We have done what we had to do [in the transfer market]. People want signings every year, but clubs don’t have to sign players every year. They have to organise themselves, sign new deals with players they have to keep… Create the foundation for the present and the future. That’s what we have tried to do,” Deco has said at the Thinking Football Summit.

Barcelona only signed Dani Olmo and Pau Victor last summer, although there were rumours about a top-quality defensive midfielder, Nico Williams and Joao Cancelo.

The club couldn’t do much transfer business after deciding to delay the agreement of the new Nike deal and failing to offload some players they reportedly considered selling.
