'Barcelona don't dominate possession. If it happened in my time there, we would be crucified': Luis Enrique ahead of PSG v Barca in April

“The key to the tie will be the team that controls the ball. Barcelona haven’t been a guarantee of this in Xavi’s two seasons. It’s neither a dominant team nor one that maintains possession,” Luis Enrique said ahead of the Champions League quarter-final between Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona in April, as per Movistar.

“If this happened in our time [at Barcelona], we wouldn’t just be punished, we’d be crucified. How the narrative changes,” he also said.

‘Barca don’t have defensive quality. They play like Eibar’: Luis Enrique to his staff ahead of PSG v Barcelona

PSG had more possession than Barca in both quarter-final legs, although Ronald Araujo’s sending-off helped the Parisians a lot at Montjuic.

Xavi’s Barcelona often adapted to the opposition instead of imposing their own game – this sometimes led to Barca’s opponents having more of the ball, although the Catalans often favoured from that as well.

PSG beat Barca 6-4 on aggregate last campaign, advancing to the semifinals where they lost to Borussia Dortmund.
