With two young children of her own, it is little surprise Jennifer Lopez proved a dab hand as she filmed scenes with a newborn baby on the set of her new romantic comedy in New York yesterday. 

In a case of art imitating life, the actress plays a mother of twins in her latest big screen offering, The Back-Up Plan.

She looked completely at ease as she fussed over the tiniest star on the set who was dressed all in pink.

Later the baby was swapped for a pair of dolls as Jennifer filmed scenes strolling down the street with two prams along with Australian actor Alex O’ Loughlin, who plays her love interest Stan.

She was also seen sharing a kiss with O’ Loughlin and in a less romantic moment was spotted rummaging through a rubbish bin.

In the movie, Jennifer’s character becomes pregnant with twins through in-vitro fertilisation, only to meet her dream man on the same day.

In real life, the Hollywood star, who turns 40 tomorrow,  is hopeful of expanding her brood.

‘I would love to have more kids,’ she has said. ‘I don’t know if we will. I don’t know if that’s in the cards for us. But we’ll see.’

The movie is her first serious project since she gave birth to Max and Emme in February last year.

They have been regular visitors to the set along with her husband Marc Antony.

She says: ‘They’ve been with me almost every day. I don’t think they realize what I do. Once in awhile, they look at the monitor and go, “Mama.”‘

She adds the 18-month-olds are growing up very quickly.

‘They’re more than walking now, they’re starting to talk. I put Max to bed yesterday…and I said, ‘I love you baby. I’ll see you tomorrow.’ And he was like, ‘I love you.'”

Jennifer says motherhood has transformed her life.

‘You just mature so quickly in such a deep way and you think life is short and you have to just go for things.

‘You can’t be afraid to try or do your best… just do it and that’s the example I want to set for my children as well. It’s like you can do anything. The only thing that ever holds us back is fear… it’s a useless emotion.’

Jennifer already has another film in the pipeline after The Back-Up Plan wraps up.

She’s signed on to star in yet another romantic comedy, The Governess, where she’ll play a professional thief who, in order to pull off a major bank heist, poses as a nanny to the three naughty children of a wealthy widower.
