Elvis’ cousin Billy Smith on his Elvis Fans Matter YouTube channel, shared an amazing story of his abundant generosity to a total stranger.

Elvis Presley’s close relative, who was accompanying The King, said the man “couldn’t believe it”.

As Elvis Presley shot to global fame in 1956, The King’s earnings naturally skyrocketed too. The star moved his extended family into the Graceland estate and would become known for his extravagant generosity. Aside from his large charitable giving every Christmas, the music icon’s spontaneous kindness went towards not just his friends and family, but also strangers.

Elvis’ cousin Billy Smith is the last surviving original Memphis Mafia member, who grew up with The King and knew him before he was famous. On his Elvis Fans Matter YouTube channel, the star’s close relative, who was one of the last people to see him alive, shared an amazing story of his abundant generosity to a total stranger.

One day the two were riding in Elvis’ limousine when they passed by an old black gentleman and his wife who were trying to push their truck full of wood that had broken down. Seeing people in need, The King pulled over and backed up behind them to offer assistance.

Elvis, who hadn’t been recognised by the couple, offered to give the truck a push with his limousine. But it didn’t quite work, so he got out and offered a lift to the old man, which was warmly received. The King then drove him to Memphis’ Oakley Ford car dealership.

Billy recalled: “He bought this man a brand new pickup and I thought that old man was gonna pass out. He couldn’t believe it!”

When signing the papers for the truck, the car salesman said, “Mr Presley, is there anything else” and then that old man realised just who had been so kind to him. But the generosity didn’t end there.

Elvis then told the old man to drive his new truck to his old one, where he’d meet him there. The King and Billy then helped him move the wood from the old truck to the new one.
