Jennifer Lopez and Sean “P. Diddy” Combs had a romantic relationship from the ’90s to the early ’00s, and they caught the attention of the media. They met on the set of Lopez’s music video for “If You Had My Love.” Their relationship was rocked by a shooting scandal that occurred inside of a nightclub in Times Square.

In 1999, Combs argued with Matthew Allen, better known as “Scar.” The argument escalated.

“The story was that Puff was flossing, which is what they call someone on the streets who’s throwing money around and acting like a big shot,” former NYPD Detective Derrick Parker told the New York Post. “Scar felt disrespected because he felt he was as important as Puff, and words were exchanged, and then bullets started flying.”

After gunshots went off, Lopez and Combs fled the scene. The cops pulled over their Lincoln Navigator after they blew through several red lights. Lopez spent 14 hours in jail but wasn’t charged with any crimes. Parker remembers Lopez’s mother’s reaction to the incident.

“Her mother was yelling at J.Lo in Spanish, and she was really mad at Jennifer,” Parker said. “I heard her say, ‘I told you not to get involved with (him).’”

Record producer Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones alleged in a lawsuit that Combs used Lopez to smuggle the gun into the club. “He shared that artist, and Mr. Combs’ girlfriend at the time, Jennifer Lopez, aka J.Lo, carried the gun into the club for him and passed him the gun after he got into an altercation with another individual.”

“I was telling you that I could always see you getting back with Puffy in a little way,” Williams said, according to a TikTok of the episode. Lopez laughed at the suggestion while the crowd cheered. Lopez then pointed at her mother in the audience. Lopez’s mother expressed her disapproval of the suggestion by making a face and hand gestures.

“It’s crazy — everybody came alive,” Lopez said at the suggestion. “They all had something to say.”

Combs and Porter dated on and off from 1994 to 2007. They shared four children. Combs and Lopez started dating when Combs and Porter were on a break from their relationship. After Lopez, Porter and Combs rekindled their romance. Porter died in 2018.
