Katt Williams Reveals How Boyz II Men SCAMMED Kandi For MILLIONS | HO

In 1991, Boyz II Men, a group of four talented Philadelphia singers, took the music world by storm with their debut album, Cooleyhighharmony. The group, formed at the Philadelphia High School for Creative and Performing Arts, initially performed as a larger ensemble under the name Unique Attraction before becoming a quartet and adopting the name Boyz II Men, inspired by a New Edition song.

The quartet—Nathan Morris, Wanya Morris, Shawn Stockman, and Michael McCary—were discovered by Charlie Mack, a local promoter, who introduced them to New Edition’s Michael Bivins. Bivins was impressed by their rendition of “Can You Stand the Rain” and took them under his wing. Bivins played a crucial role in their early career, helping them sign with Motown Records and co-writing several songs, including those on Cooleyhighharmony.

Their debut album, blending New Jack Swing with lush vocal harmonies, became a hit, leading to chart-topping singles like “End of the Road.” The album eventually sold 9 million copies and earned them four Grammys. Their follow-up album, II, became even more successful, achieving back-to-back number one hits on the Billboard Hot 100, a feat matched only by Elvis Presley and The Beatles.

Despite their success, tensions with Motown arose, particularly over the release of a remix album that the group felt was unauthorized. This led them to establish their own label, MSM Records, in 2004, allowing them greater creative control. However, their popularity waned as new pop acts like *NSYNC and the Backstreet Boys dominated the charts.

Kandi Burruss says she clashed with Boyz II Men over song credit, Wanya Morris responds

The group’s dynamics changed significantly when McCary left in 2003, citing scoliosis as a primary reason. There were conflicting reports about his departure, with the remaining members indicating personality conflicts and a lack of commitment as factors. McCary later expressed a desire to return, but disagreements over contract terms and past issues complicated matters.

Despite these challenges, Boyz II Men continued to release music independently and maintained control over their creative direction. Their legacy includes a significant impact on R&B and pop music, despite a changing industry landscape.

On a different note, Kandi Burruss, a former member of the girl group Xscape and a Grammy-winning songwriter, had a contentious experience working with Boyz II Men. During a studio session, she felt disrespected over songwriting credits. Boyz II Men’s Nathan Morris later explained that the issue stemmed from disagreements over credit splits before the song was completed. Burruss expressed disappointment, emphasizing her desire to resolve such matters transparently. Despite the conflict, they worked together again, but the tensions lingered in their interactions.
