Kylian Mbappe moved to Real Madrid this summer

Kylian Mbappe had agreed on a blockbuster move to Liverpool before joining Real Madrid, according to L’Equipe. The French superstar made his much-anticipated move to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer following the expiry of his contract with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

The La Liga champions had been hot on his heels for long, and were reportedly twice thwarted in their efforts to sign the 25-year-old. However, Los Blancos were third time lucky this summer, when they managed to sign Mbappe in a Bosman deal.

The French superstar agreed to a five-year deal which will see him pocket a reported €15m per year. Real Madrid reportedly paid him a €100m bonus as well for completing the move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

However, things could have been a lot different, as it appears that Liverpool were a step away from securing Mbappe in 2022. It is believed that the French superstar was disappointed by the Parisians’ sporting project that summer.

Despite signing an extension with the Ligue 1 champions, Mbappe was open to an exit from the Parc des Princes. The Merseyside club were attentive to the situation and apparently offered €200m for the player. Interestingly, the 25-year-old agreed personal terms with the Premier League giants as well as per the aforementioned report.

The Reds proposed a short-term deal, that would have enabled the player to make his dream move to Real Madrid in the future. However, PSG refused the offer and asked Liverpool to return with a €400m bid for their prized asset.

Kylian Mbappe has overseen a mixed start to Real Madrid career

Kylian Mbappe has endured a slow start to life at the Santiago Bernabeu. The 25-year-old initially announced himself by scoring in the UEFA Super Cup win over Atalanta. However, that was followed by a three-game barren run in La Liga against Mallorca, Real Valladolid, and Las Palmas.

Interestingly, Los Blancos dropped points in two of those three games. However, the Frenchman managed to get back his scoring boots against Real Betis before the international break, scoring a brace to help Real Madrid register a 2-0 win.

Despite the stuttering start to life with the Spanish champions, the 25-year-old is expected to prosper at the Santiago Bernabeu.

In Carlo Ancelotti, Los Blancos have the ideal man to get the best out of the superstars at the club. As such, Kylian Mbappe is unlikely to rue joining Real Madrid and missing out on a move to Anfield.
