UB40’s saxophonist Brian Travers passed away in Birmingham after a battle with cancer in 2021 and his bandmates have honoured him on his death anniversary
International Reggae band UB40 have paid homage to one of their founding members Brian Travers, two years after he passed away. The band, who are celebrating 45 years of amazing music in a homecoming gig on August 27 at Moseley Park & Pool, shared a beautiful message on their social media about Travers.
UB40’s saxophonist, Travers, was only 62 when he died after a long battle with cancer. On August 22, 2021, he died in his home in Moseley. He had undergone three surgeries for brain tumors – which were discovered in 2019, according to Variety. The two brain tumors were discovered after he had a seizure and missed some of the anniversary tour gigs.

UB40 wrote on Instagram: “It’s been two years today since Brian Travers – @btub40 – our co-founder and dear friend passed on. Brian knew “everybody” and he took the time to meet fans and artists alike, he always remembered faces and names and always made everyone he met feel special.
“Not to mention his skill as an artist, lyricist and musician, having crafted some of the best sax lines to our most memorable songs. Brian absolutely loved music and he loved the community that emerged around UB40, he would often attend local club nights where UB40 covers bands were playing and jump up on stage with them! We miss you Brian…Big Love, UB40.”
Many fans of the band also commented on their post sharing their experience of Brian. One person wrote: “There are no words really.. Brian was a one off a true gentleman and a legend in his own right. A massive presence within the band and so many people knew and loved him. Raising a pint of the black stuff for you Mr Travers.. may you be jammin in the sky with all those who have gon before God Bless You.”
Another person added: “He was a one off, a total Legend, RIP Brian you will always be sadly missed, sending love to all Brian’s loved ones.” Another fan wrote: “I was so sad that i never met BT, but he kept visiting my friends at Manzils. An amazing saxophonist and will always be loved and missed.
