The Rock: ‘Henry Cavill is the greatest Superman’

The Rock explains why he insisted on asking DC executives to invite Henry Cavill to play Superman in “Black Adam”.

Before Black Adam, Henry Cavill’s future in the DC Cinematic Universe was a big question mark for fans. The actor has not appeared in new works of the brand for 5 years, since Justice League (2017).

According to Cinema Blend, The Rock talked about the fight to invite Cavill to return as the Man of Steel character: “If we want to affirm that Black Adam is the new powerful, unstoppable force of DC, we need to bring back a character with the same power. That is Superman with Henry Cavill’s performance. The studio once said they couldn’t bring him back. But we didn’t accept that answer”.

On his personal page, The Rock added: “There’s no way to build the DC Cinematic Universe and leave the most powerful character out. You have to put Superman in the movie. And Henry Cavill is the Superman of our generation. In my opinion, he’s also the greatest Superman. I want to say this in a respectful way to the other actors, especially Christopher Reeve.”

To have the scene where Superman and Black Adam confront each other at the end of the movie, The Rock tried every way to convince his colleague to return to DC. On his personal page, Cavill said the scene was just an appetizer for the great things to come. Some rumors say DC is focusing on the script for the sequels to Superman. However, the company has not revealed the future of their most beloved superhero character.

Black Adam is the 11th film in the DC Cinematic Universe, based on the DC Comic anti-hero of the same name. The story revolves around Teth Adam (The Rock), who was gifted with the unparalleled power of six Egyptian gods. Nearly 5,000 years after being imprisoned, Teth Adam was rescued by Adrianna Tomaz (Sarah Shahi). Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), director of A.R.G.U.S. and commander of Task Force X, forms the superhero team Justice Society of America to fight against Teth Adam. However, a dangerous force appears, forcing Adam and the Justice Society of America to work together to stop the threat.
