Manchester City are reportedly leading the way to sign Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes but Arsenal and Liverpool are in hot pursuit.
Guimaraes has enjoyed a brilliant campaign at St James’ Park this season which has led to speculation that the Brazilian could be poached by rival clubs. After the Magpies’ last home game, the 26-year-old was visibly emotional which led to speculation he could be headed for the exit door in the summer.
According to AS, City have entered into an early lead to sign the Newcastle man having met with his agents over a potential transfer. However, both Arsenal and Liverpool are continuing to monitor the situation closely and Pep Guardiola’s side have yet to make an official approach for the central player.
This season, Guimaraes was a main-stay in Eddie Howe’s team making 50 appearances scoring seven goals and grabbing ten assists. Liverpool would likely see the Brazilian as a direct replacement for Thiago Alcantara who is leaving the club at the end of his contract.
Elsewhere, journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed he is 100 per cent certain where reported Liverpool target Lloyd Kelly will be moving to in the summer. The 25-year-old’s season was hampered by injuries on the South Coast however when it became clear that he would be departing at the end of his contract, Premier League clubs were put on red alert.
The Reds were one of those clubs linked with his signature but Romano understands he will be heading to Newcastle. Kelly’s move to St James’ Park does not come as a surprise considering it would mean a reunion with the Englishman’s old boss Howe.
