A 94-year-old man named Amy Craton has achieved her dream of earning a college degree 50 years after he dropped out. She graduated from Southern New Hampshire University, in the United States.

Amy, from Hawaii, obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing and English through an online program at Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) with a perfect 4.0 grade point average according to the university’s website.

She initially enrolled to get her bachelor of arts degree in 1962 but had to drop out of school to raise her four children. Because of her long-distance and health, Amy was surprised by the university with a graduation celebration in her home.

“It feels good to graduate, but in many ways, I feel I am still on the road; I have more to learn,” she said. The graduation had in attendance her family, friends, and Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU)alumni, living in Hawaii.

”Amy is the epitome of a lifelong learner, and I hope that her story will remind others that it’s never too late to follow their dreams or learn something new. The entire SNHU community could not be more proud of her accomplishment,” the university’s president said.

During the celebration, the university President LeBlanc presented her with her diploma among friends, family, and fellow Hawaii-based SNHU alumni. Several of Amy’s family members who could not attend the Hawaii event joined via video chat.

Amy stated that she has a passion for haikus and aspires to write a children’s book. During the program, Craton recited an original poem she wrote. “If you’re thinking about going back to school, do it. You’ll open up a whole new life,” she said.
