A major shakeup sent shockwaves across the NFL following the first week of the new season, as the league fired the officiating crew that allowed the Kansas City Chiefs to lose their season opener.
The unexpected loss reportedly caused frustration in the league offices, with the commissioner and other top-level executives looking to take immediate action to hold the officiating crew accountable for failing to uphold their duty to ensure a Chiefs victory.

“This is not the type of officiating we expect in our league,” said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. “We require all officials to possess the highest level of integrity when it comes to swinging games to help the Chiefs. If an official can’t accomplish that task, then they don’t belong in the National Football League.”
NFL insiders confirmed that the league had been contacted by the Chiefs following Friday night’s 27-21 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. “The Chiefs were caught off guard by the refs failing to help them,” one source said. “We knew we had to rectify the situation as quickly as possible, so we canned the officiating crew first thing Monday morning. Let this be a lesson to all the other officiating crews who don’t take the job of making sure the Chiefs win seriously.”
At publishing time, NFL sources said that the league was still investigating how they could have successfully rigged every game for the Chiefs last season while somehow allowing them to get blown out by the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl.
