Selena Gomez shows you don’t need to “kill them with kindness” as her haters can’t even comment on what she posts on social media, with the ex-Wizards of Waverley Place star disabling comments.
The actress explained her decision to limit her Instagram section to only the accounts she follows, meaning the vast majority of her fans are not able to say anything to her.
It comes just days before her ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber, and his wife Hailey Bieber, revealed the news of their pregnancy. Shrewd timing from Gomez who is often targeted by fans of her ex.
“I think I’ve created boundaries to help myself,” Gomez, the most followed woman on the platform, said in an interview on May 2. “Obviously people were concerned about that, they care about everything.”
However, Gomez, 31, told viewers that she felt “empowered” by cutting off communication to the trolls. With this parameter in place, Gomez’s comment section has been free of negativity following the Bieber’s announcement.
Justin and Selena’s past
Gomez and the hit Canadian singing sensation had been a couple since 2009 in an on and off affair, until Hailey came into the picture after the former couple broke up for good in May 2018.
Bieber proposed to his new woman just two months later, while vacationing in the Bahamas. Since then, the two girls have repeatedly faced feud rumors, despite posing together for a smiling photo at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in October.
Hailey Bieber commented on the potential feuding and fighting between the pair as recently as April 2024, insisting that she was “so far away from any kind” of drama with her husband’s ex.
“I don’t want to provoke anything or bring anything up,” Hailey Bieber said to the Call Her Daddy podcast. “[Fans] wish it ended up with someone else and that’s fine.
“You can desire all you want, but that’s not the case. If we’ve moved on, why can’t you?”
