Tiger Woods’s Daughter Sam Ditched Soccer for Track & Field Career? 17YO’s Latest Feat Explored
Athleticism runs in the blood of the Woods family and after Tiger Woods established his legacy in world sport and golf, his two children are taking the legacy forward. Sam and Charlie Woods are both emerging athletes in their respective sports, soccer, and golf, at Benjamin High School. While Charlie Woods has chosen to follow in her father’s footsteps, Sam Woods is forging her own path in the world of soccer.
Tiger Woods’s daughter has always been an exceptional soccer player and recently, Sam has chosen to expand her athletic horizons by taking up track and field. Has she made a switch from soccer to track and field? Surprisingly, Sam Woods has not moved away from soccer, instead has chosen to become a dual sport athlete at Benjamin High School. This means she will continue to kick the ball around the field and will also compete in track events.
Her decision to divide time between both the sports is quite justified as Sam was named Player of the Year by the Palm Beach Post in Track and Field Junior. Apart from helping the Buccaneers on the soccer field, Sam Woods helped her school for a third podium finish in the 4×400 Relays clocking (3:59.95). On the other hand, the 17-year-old also played in many individual events, including the 400m hurdles. There, she recorded her personal best to finish seventh (1:05.84). Other than this, Sam Woods also carded top-five finishes in district individual games and was a two-time district champion.

Undoubtedly, Sam Woods’s sports career has been moving in a better direction and booming. Even in soccer, the 17-year-old has made four goals in the 2024 season and assisted for another two for the Buccaneer Benjamin girl’s squad. With one more year to go for Sam Woods at Benjamin High School, she may post more such records and earn many accolades. While Sam Woods has been growing in her career, what has been going on with Charlie Woods?
How well is Charlie Woods playing in 2024?
For Charlie Woods, the 2024 season has not been as noteworthy as he would have expected. At first, the 15-year-old tried making his PGA Tour debut on the Cognizant Classic but he failed at the qualifying event. Then he tried his hands at the US Open qualifying and the result was no different. But Charlie Woods was adamant. He then teed up at his first-ever USGA championship, the US Junior Amateur.
His father has won that event three times in his life, so the expectations from Charlie Woods were sky-high. However, after shooting 82 and 80 in the first two rounds, the junior golfer did not progress to the final round and missed the chance to win the event. But he did redeem himself at the South Florida Junior PGA Cup in July.
The 15-year-old shot a 68 on the second day of the event and on the Sunday finals, he cruised to a much-awaited victory. After his win, Charlie Woods said, “I wanted it so bad… I felt focused. I knew what I had to do to get it done. I wanted to prove to myself that I could do better.” Both children of Tiger Woods are improving with each passing day in whatever sport they play. Once they do turn professional, the sports world will be welcoming two budding and talented athletes. While Charlie Woods will surely choose golf, it remains to be seen what Sam Woods’s choice will be: soccer or track and field.
