Robbie Williams is married to Ayda Field, but before their relationship blossomed, none other than Beyoncé allegedly tried to flirt her way into the fellow singer’s heart.

Robbie Williams allegedly turned down a date with a huge singer because she was “too young”.

The Feel songwriter recently recalled their first Top Of The Pops appearance in 1998. He explained that Robbie’s relationship with Ayda may have never happened, had Robbie agreed to go on a date with the US superstar.

Guy Chambers told Squeeze founder Chris Difford on the I Never Thought It Would Happen podcast: “That [the show] was a really big moment. It was in 1998.” He continued: “I can remember Destiny’s Child.” Referring to the girl group in which the Cowboy Carter album creator hailed from alongside Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, he recalled Beyoncé in particular. £And I remember Beyoncé. She was incredibly young then.”

The star was just 17 years old at the time. Guy added: “I remember her looking out of the dressing room door, with the other two [Kelly and Michelle], flirting with Rob and trying to get his attention.” But her alleged flirtations would eventually be in vain, as the then-24-year-old Take That star understood the boundaries of their age difference. “He was like, ‘Oh, she’s too young. I’m not going there,'” Guy claimed.

Despite looking back on their successes together, Guy put a stop to rumours that he might work with Robbie once again. The pair garnered huge popularity with their Nineties and early 2000s hits like Let Me Entertain You, Rock DJ, and No Regrets.

“There’s zero chance of that happening,” he said of working on a future hit with Robbie. The pair parted ways in 2002, with Guy releasing a press release at the time which read: “Guy has decided to work with other people and on other projects. He feels he cannot commit to working exclusively with Robbie. After six years and five albums, he feels it is time to move on.”

The 2023 Netflix documentary Robbie Williams saw the star looking back on his previous clips over the course of his career. The documentary portrayed the pair embroiled in a series of tensions, one of which included Robbie writing Come Undone, which Guy didn’t appear to approve of.

Robbie also asked to change the lyrics of the track after it was recorded, which Guy said wouldn’t be possible as it would have meant re-recording the choir “at great expense”. Williams said on the series: “If only we’d talked to each other a bit more.”

The singer went on to release his 2006 album Rudebox without Guy, garnering mixed reviews from critics. The pair did go on to work together once again in 2012, recording Robbie’s second swing album Swings Both Ways.
