Report: charges against Scottie Scheffler ‘set to be dropped’ after US PGA

Jefferson County prosecutors will reportedly ‘drop the charges against Scottie Scheffler early next week’, claims report.

The charges against Scottie Scheffler will reportedly be ‘dropped’ by Jefferson County prosecutors, according to No Laying Up’s Kevin Van Vulkenburg.

Scheffler, 27, was detained by police outside of Valhalla Golf Club after he misunderstood the traffic flow situation following a fatal collision in the early hours on Friday.

Scheffler was charged with second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and disregarding traffic signals from an officer.

But according to No Laying Up’s Van Valkenburg, it is understood the charges brought against Scheffler will be dropped after the US PGA Championship.

Van Vulkenburg tweeted:

“Some news this morning: According to a source familiar with the office’s thinking, Jefferson County prosecutors are planning, as of now, to drop the charges against Scottie Scheffler early next week. He is scheduled to be arraigned at 9 am on Tuesday.”

Scheffler’s case to have his assault charges thrown out were futher bolstered yesterday after it emerged the officer who detained him was either not wearing body cam or did not have it turned on.

That was according to Louisville mayor Craig Greenberg, who made the revelation to WDRB News.

“We did not have any [footage], to my knowledge,” Greenberg told the news channel.

Greenberg added: “We have not discovered any video of the initial contact between officer Gillis and Mr. Scheffler.”

Scheffler had been scheduled to be arraigned next Tuesday after the conclusion of the 2024 PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club.

After moving into contention for the tournament following a second-round 66, Scheffler slipped back into the pack after a third-round 73.

That marked Scheffler’s first over-par round since August 2023.

Scheffler trails by eight shots heading into the final day of what has been a whirlwind week for the World No.1.
