Randi Mahomes ‘Crying All Day’ Upon Leaving 18 Years of Bond as Patrick Mahomes’ Mom Announces Retirement

“If I feel like [football is] taking away from my family time, that’s when I’ll know it’s time to go.” When Patrick Mahomes says things like this, there’s no question that Randi Mahomes feels like she’s done something right. After all, her motto is to “show up and be present in your kids’ lives.” That said, the Chiefs quarterback’s journey in the NFL is nowhere near done, but as for Randi? Well, it looks like she’s realized “it’s time to go,” as she closes almost a 20-year-long chapter of her life…

Independent. If there’s one word that describes Randi Mahomes, it’s independent. Although she’s admitted that people have called her “too independent,” she believes that’s her greatest strength. So it was a little suspicious when she posted this now-deleted tweet: “I do it by myself even when I need help. I’m tired, though.. never gonna give up.” Now, just 2 weeks later, the 52-year-old has announced her retirement from the Hollytree Country Club.

“Tomorrow is my last day at the ‘Tree’ Hollytree,” Randi wrote. While she’s most known for being Patrick Mahomes’ mother, many don’t know that she was an event planner at the country club in Texas. Not only did this job help her find stability during her divorce, but it was also about independence, resilience, and setting an example of hard work and discipline for her kids. Turns out, it wasn’t just her kids she inspired; she had the same effect on her colleagues, too!

One of them was Meghan Howard, who shared an 18-year-long professional career with the matriarch of the Mahomes family. But it was more than just a professional relationship they had. Howard posted a picture on Instagram – a collage of a photo with Randi from 18 years ago and one from 2024. In a heartwarming message to go with the picture, she wrote, “18 years later and she’s leaving me. I will always believe that the Lord gave me Hollytree and Randi at a time in my life when I needed them.” Having Randi to look up to made navigating single parenthood easier for Meghan.

Explaining just what it meant, she continued, “A job to provide for me and my girls and a friend of mine who had walked the path I was heading down. A hard-working, divorced, single mom was just the friend and mentor I needed. The years, laughs, memories, ‘meetings,’ tears, life lessons, and even fights over the years will always hold a special place in my heart. Coming into work will never be the same, but I’m so excited for the next chapter for my girl,” Howard added, reflecting on their journey.

Understandably touched by the message, Randi Mahomes reposted it on her Instagram story and wrote, “Love U! So blessed for our friendship.” But it was under the post that the quarterback’s mother admitted to having cried all day (or planning to). When presumably one of their colleagues commented, “Can I cry already?! 😘” Randi replied, “Same 😢 all day.” Besides celebrating her years-long bond with the proud mom, Meghan Howard also expressed her love, demonstrating her regard for Mahomes’ mother.

“Love you always, praying for you always, and so very thankful for all of our years together. Sunshine and Vixen always!! Family forever!” It’s evident that Mama Mahomes’ perseverance and spirit influenced many. As for what’s next for the 52-year-old, Randi Mahomes tweeted, Could use prayers for this huge leap of faith. Focusing on my kids and being a ‘Grandi,’ which I love more than anything.” Speaking of the Mahomes clan, as she announced her retirement, one of her sons celebrated a work anniversary!

Randi loves an “all grown up” Patrick Mahomes

Can you believe it’s been seven years since Patrick Mahomes joined the NFL? And to think he’s achieved all he has at just 28 years old? Having established himself as one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, the legacy he’s already started creating is undeniable. And his partnership with Andy Reid is turning out to be another one of those dynamic head coach-quarterback combinations. To celebrate him, the Kansas City Chiefs posted a comparison of Year 1 and Year 7 Mahomes.

Much like how there was a clear difference visible in the post that Meghan Howard shared for Randi, you could see how much Patrick has changed, too. Since 2017, the 28-year-old has devoted a large part of his time to NFL commitments. While his mother has admitted that we haven’t really had a big chance to [hang out], and it’s been really frustrating for a mom,” there’s no denying that, more than anything else, she’s proud of her son. Randi replied to the tweet, “All grown up!! I love it.”

Did you know Patrick Mahomes thought about quitting football in his sophomore year of high school? That’s when Randi made him change his mind with one simple statement: “If you quit, you’re going to be bored in the stands.” Had it not been for this conversation more than a decade ago, who knows? Maybe Patrick Mahomes would’ve ended up in the MLB, playing for the Detroit Tigers, after all.

As the Chiefs’ signal-caller continues his journey toward NFL greatness and Randi Mahomes hangs up her event-planning hat, they may be at different points in their professional career, but there’s one thing they’ll always share: the love for their family. That said, Randi’s retirement represents a fresh start full of hope, demonstrating her enthusiasm for a new life stage.
