July 18 Officially Dubbed Carrie Underwood Day in Hawaii in Celebration of Her First Concert in the Aloha State
Since winning American Idol in 2005, Carrie Underwood has played shows across the nation and around the world. Currently, she has performed in 49 of the 50 United States. Tonight, she’ll make it 50 when she performs her first-ever show in Hawaii. To mark the occasion, officials dubbed yesterday (July 18) Carrie Underwood Day in Hawaii.
Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi and Department of Business, Economic Development & Tourism Jame Tokioka made the declaration yesterday on behalf of Hawaii Governor Josh Green.
This is the first time the state of Hawaii, and the city and county of Honolulu have simultaneously honored an entertainer.
The historic proclamation came the day before Underwood performed in the Aloha State for the first time. Her two-night stand at Honolulu’s Blaisdell Arena starts tonight.
Concert promoter Rick Bartalini spoke about the groundbreaking proclamations in a statement. “History has been made with Carrie becoming the first artist to receive ceremonial proclamations from both the state and city,” he shared.
Upon presenting the proclamations to Underwood during a ceremony, Mayor Blangiardi said, “With heartfelt aloha, we thank her for bringing her live show to Hawaii and fulfilling the dreams of thousands of fans who have eagerly awaited this opportunity. Carrie Underwood embodies the Aloha Spirit through her talent, love, and genuine care and compassion for others.
Carrie Underwood on Waiting to Perform in Hawaii
In an interview earlier this year, Carrie Underwood revealed why she waited so long to perform in Hawaii. “There’s a reason,” she said. “I’ve been to Hawaii but I’ve been there for work. So, I really don’t feel like I’ve gotten to experience Hawaii,” she added.
“We’ve always talked about going, always wanted to go. But it was always like on the end of a tour or something,” she explained. “I never felt like it was quite right to end a tour and then, as an afterthought, go to Hawaii. It needed to be something special. It needed to be, like, on its own and us to be able to give it the attention it deserves,” she added.
