Horner shares tease to Wolff over summer break

Relations between Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner and Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff have been tense for years. The two rivals occasionally tease at each other in the media and Horner did so again ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort.

Horner: ‘If Toto Wolff sees that, I’m in trouble’

Since Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton’s bitter rivalry in the 2021 Formula 1 season, the storm seemed to have subsided a little. However, the war of words between them flared up again with Wolff’s overt attempts to bring Verstappen to his team. There remains a rivalry between the two team bosses, as evidenced again by a remark Horner made towards his rival.

During an event hosted by team sponsor Tag Heuer, at which GPblog was present, the Red Bull team boss was asked what his team has been working on during the summer break to improve on-track performance. “We’re not allowed to work over the summer break, so that would be illegal if we did,” Horner stresseed, after which he reflects on the collaboration between the brand and the team.

The interviewer then revisits the 50-year-old Briton’s answer, who was extra keen to stress that no work was done on the car during the period when it is not allowed. “I was just consciously filling in. If Toto Wolff sees it, I’m going to be in trouble,” Horner laughed.
