Rory McIlroy’s Ex Erica Stoll Spotted Without Engagement Ring in First Photos Since Golfer Filed for Divorce

Rory McIlroy’s ex Erica Stoll has been spotted for the first time since the pro golfer filed for divorce.

McIlroy, 35, filed the petition to dissolve their marriage on May 13 in Florida, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE. He and Stoll, 36, were married for seven years.

On May 16, Stoll was seen out in Jupiter, Florida with her engagement ring noticeably missing.

The former PGA employee looked casual in black leggings, a gray shirt and oversized sunglasses on her head with her hair in a ponytail.

Stoll was wearing thin bands on her index finger and ring finger and a white Apple Watch on her wrist as she searched through a tan crossbody bag and held a reusable water bottle during the outing.

McIlroy was also seen sans wedding ring after the filing while practicing at the Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky on May 16. The golfer looked focused in a baby blue polo and gray slacks as he prepared for the ongoing PGA Championship.

Before the split, Stoll was a regular attendee at her husband’s tournaments, from caddying for him at the 2023 Masters Par 3 contest to cheering him on at the Ryder Cup.

In October, Stoll was photographed wearing her engagement ring while sitting with McIlroy at the 2023 Ryder Cup at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in Rome, Italy.

The couple met during the 2012 Ryder Cup when Stoll was working as a transport official for the tour. At the time, McIlroy was dating tennis player Caroline Wozniacki. McIlroy and Wozniacki got engaged on New Year’s Eve in 2013 but he broke things off a few months later.

His relationship with Stoll turned romantic in 2014. About six months after they started dating, McIlroy spoke candidly about his “love life” in an interview with the Times of London.

“I am very happy in my love life. We haven’t really been putting it out there. She is from America, which is why I like to spend time in Palm Beach … The past six or seven months have been really nice. That part of my life is going great,” he said.

The golfer proposed to Stoll in Dec. 2015 during a trip to Paris. In a 2016 interview with The Independent, McIlroy said, “The thing I love about it is that we were friends before anything romantic happened.”

McIlroy explained to the outlet that he “found it refreshing” to be with someone “who was living a normal life” and he “could speak to her about anything.” He added, “We ended up spending a bit of time together and realized that there was something more there.”

McIlroy and Stoll married at Ashford Castle in County Mayo, Ireland on April 22, 2017. They share one daughter, Poppy, who they welcomed on Aug. 31, 2020.
