Legendary 90s band cancel project for second time because fans don’t care enough. ttmd

Weezer has once again been forced to ditch plans linked to their ‘SZNZ’ project after ‘poor sales’ left the project unsustainable.

This is the second time in recent years the 90s band – made up of Rivers Cuomo, Patrick Wilson, Brian Bell, and Scott Shriner – has cancelled over disappointing sales.

After their 2022 EP, Van Weezer, the group released four more EPs based on the seasons; Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter.

Last March, Weezer announced they would be releasing a box set of vinyls which would coordinate with the four releases, starting with Spring.

However, the merchandise has now been scrapped as they are ‘not expecting enough sales to make it work’.

‘Ok official word: I just learned the SZNZ box was in fact cancelled, I’m sorry to confirm,’ shared Karl Kooch on the Weezer Discord server.

Karl is the band’s assistant, archivist, and unofficial fifth member who often releases updates and information to the fans.

He continued: ‘Apparently high cost vs. not expecting enough sales to make it work. Feels kinda like the Broadway cancel thing… just letting SZNS be “as is”, and enjoy.’

The ‘Broadway cancel thing’ refers to another project from the Say It Ain’t So singers which was left by the wayside due to high costs.

They had announced five back-to-back gigs at the Broadway Theatre in New York in 2022, again with each one focused on a season.

Frontman Rivers took to the Discord server in August of that year to state it would no longer go ahead after poor sales.

‘I just learned that our Broadway shows have been cancelled (due to low ticket sales and unbelievably high expenses.)’ he confirmed.

‘I’m very sorry to be telling you this now after we’ve already invested so much time, thought, and emotion. Extra apologies to those of you who cleared schedules and made travel plans to be with us.

‘Thanks to @Broadway Producer for all your hard work and great ideas. I loved where we were going and I hope we can find a way to resurrect our vision.’

Despite the cancellations, Weezer are still planning to head out on tour in September around America.

The Voyage To The Blue Planet Tour consists of 26 shows, with most tickets sold out across the venues.

There are resell tickets on Ticketmaster at around $200 (£155) each, although some seats in venues like Flordia are as low as $55 (£42).

VIP tickets soar up to $500 (£388) and include a tour around the stage as well as ‘Weezer Memorabilia’, an ‘exclusive Weezer Merch Pack’ with items ‘not available anywhere else’ plus VIP hosting and entrance.
