On the morning of Wednesday, July 24, Lauren Alaina shared some incredibly heartbreaking news with fans. She took to social media to say her father, J.J. Suddeth, has passed away and that she will be taking some time off to mourn with her family.

“We lost my daddy last night, and I really have no words yet,” Alaina began in her statement shared via Instagram.

In lieu of his difficult time, the female songstress revealed that she will be unable to play the three shows she was scheduled to perform this weekend in Savannah, Virginia Beach and Charlotte.

“I am going home to be with my family. Thank you for your prayers and understanding,” her message concluded.

The cause of her father’s death is unknown; however it seems to have been sudden news for the family.

Many members of the country music community took to the comment section of her post to share their condolences.

Ella Langley wrote, I am so sorry Lauren. Sending prayers for you and your family 🤍”

TJ Osborne of Brothers Osborne said, “My heart breaks for you. Good for you for taking the time process and grieve. Here for you.”

“Lauren, I am so sorry. Love u friend..,” wrote Nate Smith, followed by Ashley Cooke who added, “I’m so sorry for your loss Lauren.🤍”

She received addition words of support from artists like Martina McBride, Travis Denning, Danielle Bradbery, Karen Fairchild, Kylie Morgan, Tigirlily Gold and many more.

While her relationship with her father, a veteran of the U.S. Army, has certainly had its fair share of ups and downs, the pair appeared to be going especially strong over the past few years. Her father has also acted as her muse for songwriting on several occasions.

In 2017, she released the song, “Doin’ Fine,” which touched on the heavy emotions she felt towards her parent’s divorce as well as her father’s journey with sobriety. A few years later, in June of 2021, the pair took the stage of the Grand Ole Opry together alongside Alaina’s brother, Tyler, to perform a cover of Whitley’s “When You Say Nothing At All.” The family affair was certainly one to remember as it also commemorated her big brother’s 28th birthday.

This year, the Georgia native previewed another very personal song titled “My Old Man.” The song was never officially released, but it was used for Alaina’s daddy/daughter dance at her wedding that took place on February 4, 2024 at Nashville’s Schermerhorn Symphony Center.

“I wrote this song for my daddy for our daddy/daughter dance. It was such a special moment during our wedding. I will truly never forget it,” Alaina captioned her post which featured a video of special moments of celebration among the country star, her family and her new husband, Cam Arnold.

“‘I knew I found the one when they became best friends. My good ole boy and My Old Man,’” the “Road Less Traveled” she added, quoting a lyric from her heartfelt tune.

Alaina used the tune once again in her most recent post with her dad in honor of Father’s Day. This post featured more images from her wedding that were captured the first time he say his daughter in her stunning white gown, before she walked down the aisle.

She wrote, “Happy Fathers Day to “my old man” with a heart the size of Texas!! I love you so much daddy and hope you have the best day fishin’. Love, your turd (pinky) 🤍”

According to Suddeth’s personal Instagram account, he spent the last few months enjoying life with his girlfriend Lori Lytle. The couple shared the news of their engagement in June.
