Most of the time, musicians promote one song at a time.
This is especially true when it comes to radio, where the thinking usually is that programmers and DJs should be given one tune to focus on, then the next when the first begins to fall. Of course, not everyone follows this logic, and some superstars don’t need to, as they are popular enough to push several cuts at once.
Jelly Roll is one such musician. He has a pair of tracks present on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart this week, which is known as one of the most competitive radio rankings in the U.S. Notably, he doesn’t appear twice because one hit is on the way up as the other falls. Instead, both of the multi-genre favorite’s cuts are climbing.
His highest-ranking win this week is a collaboration with Dustin Lynch. The two worked on the tune “Chevrolet,” which has become a smash at country radio. This week, the tune rises to a new peak of No. 7, up from tenth place.
At the same time, Jelly looks like he may be about to score another top 10. His own “I Am Not Okay” gains this frame, though only by one space. The single improves to No. 16, a new high point for the recent release.
Throughout his career, Jelly has only sent six songs to the Country Airplay chart. Impressively, one-third of those winners are present on the tally this frame, and they’re managing to reach more and more listeners each week.
In addition to those two tunes, Jelly has yet another hit on Billboard’s country charts…though it hasn’t yet reached the Country Airplay tally. He and MGK (formerly Machine Gun Kelly) teamed up to rework a John Denver classic, making it into their own “Lonely Road.” Not yet promoted to country radio–at least not heavily–the cut debuts on a number of genre-specific tallies this frame.
“Lonely Road” makes a home on the Hot Country Songs (No. 33), Country Streaming Songs (No. 16), and Country Digital Song Sales (No. 2) charts. In the coming weeks, it could be pushed to radio in that field as well, and Jelly may be about to score a third simultaneous hit.
