Three members of the four members of renowned gospel group The Nelons died in a tragic plane crash on Friday. Friends and family have spoken out after the tragic loss and fans sent their condolences
Three members of renowned gospel group The Nelons died in a tragic plane crash, and since then, friends have penned heartwrenching tributes.
Jason and Kelly Nelon Clark, their daughter Amber and son-in-law Nathan Kistler were on their way to a concert with pilot Larry Haynie, his wife Melissa and the family’s assistant Melodi Hodges. Their plane crashed over Wyoming, killing all seven on board, on Friday, July 16. The Nelons posted about their trip to Alaska for the Gaither Homecoming Cruise, standing in front of their private plane and expressed their excitement about the journey, mentioning a stop in Nebraska and their next destination, Montana.
Friends and co-workers of the family have expressed their grieving after local sheriff’s office confirmed that no one survived from the crash.

Singer-songwriter Mark Lowry told The U.S. Sun: “Our hearts are heavy with the news of the tragic passing of our dear friends. We have created so many precious memories over the decades that I will hold dear, so many good times and so much laughter.” He continued: “Our only comfort is knowing that they have seen our Savior face to face, and we’ll join in singing with them again one day soon.”
Actor and entertainer Randall Franks shared a picture of him performing with them on Twitter. Along with the picture, he wrote: “Heartbroken – The Nelons plane crash going to Gaither Homecoming Cruise – Jason and Kelly Nelon Clark, Amber and Nathan Kistler and their assistant, Melodi Hodges, along with the pilot, Larry Haynie and his wife, Melissa all were killed. Prayers for all. Me on stage with them.”
Pastor Ed Seltzer tweeted: “Many of us knew and appreciated @TheNelons. This loss hits hard. Moments like this don’t come with an explanation– just shock and sadness, causing us to cry out to God in grief. Pray with me for their family, friends, and church.”
Autumn Nelon Streetman, who is also part of the gospel group, was not aboard the flight. She issued a heartfelt statement, writing: “As many of you have heard by now, my father and mother, Jason and Kelly Nelon Clark, along with my sister, Amber, and brother-in-law, Nathan, as well as our dear friends Melodi Hodges, Larry, and Melissa Haynie, were involved in a tragic plane crash on Friday.”

In Jason’s last post on social media, he told fans that they would “check in later.” Fans flooded the comment section and sent their condolences. One person wrote: “Wow! PTL they are singing in Glory and we will all meet up again one day. #comequicklylord.” Another person commented: “So hard to watch this now.”
