Garth Brooks Is “Flattered And Honored” To Be This Year’s Only ACL Nominee
Austin City Limits, or ACL, is a music performance TV show that has appeared weekly on PBS since October 1974. It’s the longest-running music program in television history, according to its website.
The show’s 50th anniversary coincides with the Hall of Fame’s 10th anniversary. And this year, Garth Brooks will join the ranks of Willie Nelson, Lyle Lovett and Loretta Lynn as he is inducted into the ACL Hall of Fame The “Callin’ Baton Rouge” singer will perform during a Sept. 5 celebration at the Moody Theater in downtown Austin, Texas.
Brooks shared the exciting news with his social media followers in an Instagram post Wednesday (July 17.) “Flattered and honored does not begin to cover it,” wrote the country legend in the caption. “Thank you ACL for all you’ve done for me and all you mean to music. love, g”
Brooks has a longstanding history with ACL, dating back to his first appearance in 1990 just as his career was taking off. The two-time GRAMMY winner returned a decade later for ACL’s milestone 25th season. Most recently, Brooks returned in 2021 to play a pair of solo acoustic sets as a fundraiser for Austin PBS, KXAN reported.
Brooks will take his place in the ACL Hall of Fame alongside wife Trisha Yearwood. The “How Do I Live” singer was inducted last year with John Prine.
