Bill Belichick could join Bills to rub it in Robert Kraft’s face, says Colin Cowherd – “He can hold grudges”
Earlier this year, in January, the New England Patriots parted ways with long-time head coach Bill Belichick, after a 20-year run together. Colin Cowherd floated the possibility of the six-time Super Bowl winning HC joining the Buffalo Bills in 2025.
Belichick couldn’t land a job this offseason and there were reports that Patriots owner Robert Kraft was influential in him going jobless. Cowherd listed the Dallas Cowboys, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Buffalo Bills as potential landing spots for the Belichick in 2025.
Speaking on his eponymous show, “The Herd,” Cowherd outlined reasons why Belichick would prefer joining the Bills over the other two teams.
“I’ve heard two things about Belichick and I trust my sources on this, Cowherd said. “He would rather stay out East. He’s got his place in Nantucket. He golf’s down in Jupiter, Florida. Bill doesn’t have any interest moving everybody out West. The second thing he would like the quarterback situation to be stable… There’s nothing more stable that Dak and Josh Allen.”
Cowherd continued, explaining that while there’s nothing wrong with Sean McDermott, he expects more from the Bills’ current HC. With the AFC getting competitive as ever, Cowherd believes there’s “an underlying heat” on McDermott. He added that the billionaire owner could just decide to move off Bills HC as their contracts are just “rounding errors” for them.
“The Buffalo one, he [Belichick] can also come back and rub it in the Patriots face. And we know Belichick can hold grudges. You don’t think he wants to face the Patriots twice a year and rub it in Robert Kraft’s face? You’re out of your mind.”
Sean McDermott took over the Bills coaching job in 2017 and has had six winning seasons in seven years. The Bills have won the AFC East for the last four straight years. But consistent playoff failures have kept them from maximizing their window.
Bill Belichick ‘fully invested’ to make NFL coaching return in 2025
While Bill Belichick will be joining “Inside the NFL” crew for the 2024 season, he reportedly intends to get back to coaching next year. Filling in for Rich Eisen, NFL insider Tom Pelissero said that the former New England Patriots head coach is “fully invested” to return to the NFL. [From 4:50]
“Bill Belichick intends to coach in 2025,” Pelissero said. “He’s staying engaged in the game. He’s showing up to roasts. He’s now going to be on Inside the NFL. We’ve seen him showing up to different events.”
Pelissero added
“He’s fully invested in he wants to coach again. He wants to pursue the all-time wins record. Those are things that really matter a lot to Bill Belichick.”
Legenday NFL coach Don Shula holds the all-time record for coaching wins (328). Bill Belichick is only 26 wins behind him at 302. The six-time Super Bowl-winning HC would not miss the chance to break the record and cement himself as the greatest ever, if not already.
