The Witcher fans torn over ‘awkward’ footage that explains why Henry Cavill left Netflix show

The Witcher fans believe some “awkward” interview footage explains why Henry Cavill left the Netflix TV show.

It’s a shame what has happened to The Witcher TV show. The Netflix live-action adaptation started off strongly with its first season and while there were a few inconsistencies with the source material for the most part it impressed fans.

When season 2 rolled around it was a different story, and when season 3 aired in two parts fans were pretty much done with the series. They weren’t the only ones either as Henry Cavill, who played Geralt himself, had announced the third season would be his last. He’s now passed the swords and white wig over to Liam Hemsworth and while Hemsworth has been putting a lot of time into researching the role by reading the books, it hasn’t stopped fans from relentlessly attacking him.

The fourth season of The Witcher is set to drop sometime in 2025 provided it’s not cancelled, and while they wait with pitchforks and torches in hand, fans have been speculating what made Cavill leave the show in the first place.

While it could just be that he was tired of the work and wanted to move onto another project many believe it was the story straying so far from the books that caused the departure.

A tweet from mofromyt showed a clip of Cavill in an interview with series showrunner Lauren Hissrich who’s said she found the actor to be “really annoying” due to his insistence on staying true to the source material.

In the clip Hissrich talks about injecting comedy to the series to lighten the darker tone, with a popular example being Geralt’s solemn goodbye to his horse Roach being interrupted for the sake of comedy.

Fans said “I don’t blame him for walking away,” and believe future seasons will be rock bottom for the show without Cavill there to keep viewers engaged.

Harry Potter fans just realising Henry Cavill missed out on major roleHarry Potter fans just realising Henry Cavill missed out on major role

While I’ve never claimed to know everything about the Wizarding World, I am surprised that I’ve never stumbled across this tidbit before.

Did you know that Henry Cavill narrowly missed out on a role in the original Harry Potter film trilogy?

If you didn’t, I’ll give you a minute to ponder who it might be, bearing in mind that Cavill was in his 20s during the 00s.

Got someone in mind?

Well, you’re correct if you’re thinking of Cedric Diggory.

Yes, the role ultimately went to Robert Pattinson, kickstarting his career, but Cavill was one of the other names in contention.

In fact, Cavill was also up against Pattinson for the role of Edward Cullen in Twilight.

He previously spoke about the fact on Josh Horowitz’s Happy, Sad, Confused podcast.

“I definitely auditioned for that one,” Cavill said of Cedric Diggory. “And did not get it.”

“The audition may have gone well. It may have gone terribly. I’m sure someone out there has footage which hopefully is locked away and will never be seen. I didn’t get it; it wasn’t right.”

I think most of us would agree that Pattinson did a fantastic job with the role of Cedric, but it’s interesting to ponder what Cavill’s casting might’ve been like.

The only problem is that Cavill is a pretty strong, muscly guy.

And while he was once, of course, leaner and younger, people can’t quite seem to look past his impressive physique.

“Worked out for the best imo,” wrote Reddit user WhiteAle01.

Let’s face it, while I’m sure missing out on the roles of Cedric and Edward proved disappointing at the time for Cavill, neither particularly set back his career.

Cavill is arguably one of the most beloved actors out there today – and I, for one, cannot wait to see what he’s cooking up in the Warhammer department on his new Prime Video collaboration.

TThe Witcher spin-off scrapped by Netflix

Nothing quite says the ship is sinking like cancelled spin-offs. Poor Netflix, it just can’t catch a break with building on the success of The Witcher franchise.

First, Henry Cavill left, much to the dismay of The Witcher fandom. Then viewers poo-pooed Liam Hemsworth playing the iconic Geralt. And now, Netflix has scrapped a spin-off series after two months of filming.

It’s all going a bit wrong, we’re sad to say.

After learning that The Witcher will end on season five, we’re also finding out that the spin-off, titled The Rats, has reportedly been cancelled.

At least we still have The Witcher Sirens of the Deep to look forward to.

Intended to follow the antics of The Rats, who Ciri joined in season three, the series once intended to span between six to eight episodes, will now feature as flashbacks in season four of The Witcher instead.

According to Redanian Intelligence, after Netflix watched the footage already filmed, it decided not to go ahead with the prequel.

If you want further “confirmation”, Juliette Alexandra, who plays one of The Rats, has reportedly updated her resume to reflect this change of direction.

Alexandra’s resume read, “Juliette will return to S4 of The Witcher as one of The Rats, as well as in the spin off highlighting the backstory of these characters.” However, as per Redanian Intelligence, the latter part about the prequel has been removed.

In truth, though, The Rats being canned is the least of Netflix’s problems since fans got their first look at Hemsworth as Geralt. Oh, not in the full costume but rather a cast reading intended to show a peek behind the scenes.

Unfortunately, the response to that hasn’t been warm or inviting, but rather underwhelming and frosty.

Maybe season four of The Witcher will surprise us, or maybe it’ll be exactly what we’ve been dreading. Even if it does die a painful death, at least we have The Witcher 4 to look forward to.

Out of nowhere, Netflix has dropped a teaser trailer for the upcoming season of The Witcher which gives us our first look at Liam Hemsworth at the helm.

Coming in at under one-minute long, the teaser trailer for was just dropped by the official Netflix Twitter account and gives us our first look at season four of the television adaptation.

As mentioned, this is our first look at Hemsworth in action as he walks through a dimly-lit forest with Roach at his side. The trailer ends with our new Geralt looking into the distance with his yellow eyes catching the light.

Other than that, there is not much more to go on which isn’t surprising considering the next season is not set to air until some time next year.

All we know is that Netflix already has its work cut out with many fans already claiming that season four has “dropped the ball” by replacing Henry Cavilll with Hemsworth as Geralt himself.

Since we saw our first photograph of Hemsworth’s Geralt on set last week, said fans have been quick to criticise his look with many believing he does not have what it takes to portray the rough-around-the-edges Witcher.

However, with Anya Chalotra and Freya Allan reprising their roles as Yennefer and Ciri respectively, there is still hope for the television adaptation. And who knows? Hemsworth may be what the show has been missing all these years.

All will be revealed when The Witcher season 4 drops in 2025.

Until then, there is always The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to keep fans occupied and with a recent download adding multiple map expansions, now is the perfect time to visit the hit RPG.

Henry Cavill James Bond first footage appears online

James Bond is an iconic role many actors covet, as we can see from this first glimpse of Henry Cavill as the famous spy.

As any James Bond fan knows, Cavill has yet to play the part. However, he did once audition for the role and was described as being “tremendous” by director Martin Campbell.

The Casino Royale director even went as far as to say that if Daniel Craig “didn’t exist”, Cavill would have got the part.

Campbell told The Daily Express, “He looked great in the audition. His acting was tremendous. And look, if Daniel didn’t exist Henry would have made an excellent Bond.”

“He looked terrific, he was in great physical shape… very handsome, very chiselled. He just looked a little young at that time back then.”

Footage from that 2005 audition has now appeared online for the first time via Ron South’s YouTube channel, featuring Cavill reading iconic lines, such as “Bond, James Bond” and “Shaken not stirred”.

Even though it matters little what fans think about this footage given its age, there’s plenty of discussion regarding the clip.

“I’m impressed, considering how young he was then. Now, he’d nail it,” commented user @ginawhite7228.

Another user added, “But now he’s ready to be Bond.”

The general consensus is that Cavill was too young back in 2005. However, he’s since grown into an excellent actor and one who many believe is destined to play Bond.

“Wasn’t ready yet but now that he’s older he’d be perfect,” remarked @bacster99.

Fellow fan @CHARLLIEBENBERG-x1e said, “Henry Cavill would make a perfect addition to the list of James Bond 007 stars.”

The question now is whether Cavill will eventually play the part that everyone believes he’s perfect for.

Who will play James Bond next has been talked about ever since Daniel Craig stepped down from the role. Everyone has an opinion on the subject, even those not well versed in Bond lore.

We might never get Cavill playing Bond, not officially anyway. But on this corner of the internet, there’s footage of what could have been if he’d been chosen.
