In a brief speech on stage, Eminem emphasized the importance of the US presidential election to the future of democracy.
Eminem made a last-minute appearance at US presidential candidate Kamala Harris’ campaign rally in his hometown of Detroit.
The rapper took the stage after speeches from Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, former Detroit Lions football player Calvin Johnson, Michigan Senate candidate Elissa Slotkin, Detroit City Council member Mary Sheffield, and Michigan Senators Gary Peters and Debbie Stabenow.
In his brief speech, he stressed the importance of the US presidential election to the future of democracy.
“Detroit! Hey, everybody!” he said after performing his hit 2010 single “Not Afraid.” “I wrote down a few things that I wanted to say. I’m here tonight for a few important reasons. As most of you know, the city of Detroit and the entire state of Michigan mean a lot to me. As we head into this election, the spotlight is on us. I think it’s important that you use your voice. So I encourage everyone to get out there and vote. I think people shouldn’t be afraid to speak up, because no one wants an America where people have to worry about retaliation or (bad) things happening if you speak up. I believe Vice President Harris supports the future of this country, where freedom and rights are protected and preserved.” And to give you a better understanding, let me introduce (former) President Barack Obama.”
Eminem then went on to perform “Lose Yourself” as Obama took the stage, with the former US President even rapping a few lines to the beat of the song.
Eminem’s support for Harris and the Democratic Party is not surprising. During the 2020 US presidential election, he supported the (Joe) Biden-Harris ticket.
Eminem has also been vocal in his criticism of former President Donald Trump and the Republican Party. Last year, for example, he appeared in an interview saying that Trump had “brainwashed” his supporters into thinking that great things were going to happen. And in 2017, in a freestyle called “The Storm” performed at the BET Hip Hop Awards, he called Trump a “racist” and said “we hate Trump.”
Eminem’s anger toward the Republican Party extends beyond former President Trump. Last year, Eminem sent a letter to then-Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, demanding that he stop using his songs on his campaign trail. In 2004, he criticized George W. Bush and America’s involvement in the Iraq War in the song “Mosh.”
Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Bruce Mathers III, is one of the most influential rappers of all time. Born on October 17, 1972, in St. Joseph, Missouri, Eminem is one of the few white artists to gain recognition and popularity in the hip-hop world.
Eminem’s journey from poverty to fame is an inspiring story of perseverance and determination. He grew up in a difficult environment in Detroit, a city known for its high unemployment and crime rates. He spent his childhood in poverty with his mother and frequently changed schools, making him a victim of school violence.
Despite his poor academic performance, Eminem found his passion for hip-hop at an early age. He regularly participated in rap “battles” in the Detroit area, where the artists were mostly black. As a white rapper in a difficult environment, Eminem faced a lot of prejudice and was looked down upon by many.
However, he persisted in pursuing his passion. In 1996, Eminem released his debut album “Infinite”. However, the album was not successful and was criticized for being influenced by other famous rappers such as Nas and AZ.
But failure did not discourage Eminem. On the contrary, it motivated him to perfect his own style and rap voice. In 1997, Eminem released “The Slim Shady EP”, a work that allowed Eminem to express his boldest thoughts, albeit with dark colors.
The work caught the attention of Dr. Dre, a famous producer and rapper of the group N.W.A. Being a perceptive person, Dr. Dre not only saw potential but also believed in Eminem’s talent, and the two collaborated to produce the album “The Slim Shady LP”, released in 1999.
The album quickly became a huge success, winning the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album and topping the music charts. With songs like “My Name Is” and “Guilty Conscience,” Eminem did not hesitate to explore sensitive topics such as violence, drug abuse and social conflicts. His bold style, blend of dark humor and personal experiences helped him make his mark and gain the love of the audience.
In 2000, Eminem released the album “The Marshall Mathers LP”, a work that catapulted his name to new heights. With hits such as “Stan”, “The Real Slim Shady” and “The Way I Am”, the album broke many records and became one of the best-selling albums in music history.
“The Marshall Mathers LP” not only helped Eminem affirm his position in the rap music industry but also brought him 3 Grammy awards.
In 2002, he released the album “The Eminem Show”, which was also a huge success. The album included hits such as “Without Me”, “Cleanin’ Out My Closet” and “Sing for the Moment”, continuing to explore personal and social themes. The Eminem Show received a Grammy Award and firmly established Eminem as one of the world’s best rappers.
Despite his success, Eminem also faced many difficulties in his life and career. After 2004, Eminem began to suffer from mental health problems and addiction to painkillers, causing him to take a career hiatus for several years. In 2009, Eminem returned with the album “Relapse”, but the product was not successful.
In 2010, Eminem released the album “Recovery”, showing his efforts to overcome personal and professional difficulties. The album included popular songs such as “Not Afraid” and “Love the Way You Lie” (collaboration with Rihanna), quickly achieved success and received strong support from fans.
“Recovery” won the Grammy for Best Rap Album and confirmed that Eminem had not only overcome his difficulties but also regained his place in the music industry.
In 2013, Eminem released the album “The Marshall Mathers LP 2”, a sequel to the legendary album “The Marshall Mathers LP”. This album brought him a new generation of fans and helped him win another Grammy Award. This is a testament to Eminem’s continued talent and influence despite many challenges. /.
