Henry Cavill confirms he will not return as Superman

It has been announced by Henry Cavill that he will not return as Superman in the next film, after playing the role for almost a decade.

He first appeared in Man of Steel in 2013, but will no longer continue the role for the next instalment of the superhero franchise.

Less than two months ago, it was announced that Cavill would reprise his role, but there are now new bosses at DC and they have decided to go in another direction.

It has been reported that the next film will showcase an earlier part of the hero’s life, DC said more details about the upcoming film will be revealed in the New Year.

The British actor made it known he would no longer be reprising the role in an Instagram post, in which he said:

No photo description available.

“I have just had a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran and it’s sad news, everyone. I will, after all, not be returning as Superman.

“After Being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life. The changing of the guard is something that happens.”

Superman is not the only high-profile role that Cavill has recently made known he will not be returning to.

It was also announced by Netflix that his role as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher series will be played by Liam Hemsworth after the next series.
