NBA fans stunned as the late Bill Russell’s X account tweets before Celtics’ Game 2 win
It appeared Bill Russell was tweeting from beyond the grave the Sunday night.
The X account formerly belonging to the Celtics legend tweeted “LET GO CELTICS!!” right around tipoff for Game 2 Sunday, an eventual 105-98 Boston win.
Considering Russell has been dead for nearly two years, that tweet had the NBA social media community wondering if some divine intervention was happening in Boston.

“Uh sir aren’t you supposed to be with God rn?” one user posted.
However, there was no Stephen King-like story unfolding during the NBA Finals.
Russell’s widow, Jeannine, had been the one who posted the tweet.
“To everyone who has reached out to this post. This is Bill’s wife. Please stay tuned for some exciting announcements on Building my husband’s legacy, and other amazing projects,” she tweeted a little after 11 p.m. ET. “Another great win tonight for the @celtics Brown or Holiday #BillRussellMVPFinalsAward.”
Russell, who won an NBA record 11 rings and earned MVP honors five times with the Celtics, died on July 31, 2022, at the age of 88.
His excellence on the court led to the NBA naming the NBA Finals MVP award in his honor.
Since his death, his X account has posted sparingly, with Jeannine posting tributes to her late husband and most of the posts having a tone that reflected it was not Russell posting.
On Sunday night, the “LET GO CELTICS!!” post caught many off guard since the language didn’t give off any vibes of the author.

As of Monday morning, the tweet had nearly 800 comments, 2,800 retweets, 17,000 likes and 5.5 million impressions.
“Did I miss something?” one user posted.
Another commented: “Man hit tweet from beyond the grave. He wasn’t missing this run.”

The Celtics are now just two wins away from adding their 18th championship with Jrue Holiday’s defense shutting down Kyrie Irving, allowing Boston to overcome Luka Doncic’s brilliance.
