American hurdler Chris Robinson has had a race meeting to remember for more ways than one.

The 24-year-old won the men’s 400m hurdles final at the Ostrava Golden Spike meeting in the Czech Republic on Wednesday morning (AEST), despite suffering an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction virtually at the gun.

Robinson started well, but could be seen adjusting his crotch before he exited the first bend.

A low front-on camera angle as the runners went down the back straight then showed Robinson’s entire package had escaped out the leg hole of his shorts.

Somehow he managed to maintain a slim lead as he continued in vein to put the mouse back in the house. He seemed to give up after he clouted the ninth hurdle, but regained his composure to successfully get over the final hurdle.

He stumbled and rolled over the finish line. American hurdler Chris Robinson suffered an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction in the men's 400m hurdles at the Ostrava Golden Spike event in the Czech Republic.

Laying on his belly, he tucked himself back in and rolled over laughing.

Rivals – who had no doubt seen Robinson’s frantic hand work and realised what was going on – were laughing as they came over to shake his hand.

In commentary, former English athletes Tim Hutching and Hannah England sounded as if they were fighting back fits of giggles.

“He was having an equipment failure, I think is probably the politest way to put it,” Hutchings said.

“That’s a brilliant run from the American – to be constantly adjusting certain parts of his equipment and certainly his anatomy down the home straight and that top bend.

“Goodness me … constant adjustments going on, manhandling going on with his left hand.

England then apologised as full frontal slow-motion replays were shown.

“There hasn’t been time to censor them, but well done to Chris Robinson for battling a problem that does emerge occasionally,” Hutchings said.

“Perhaps in a race every two or three years you see scenes like this from men and women with parts of their equipment failing.

“It can make it very, very awkward, but that was a stunning effort to stay out in front with all that going on.”
