Elon Musk’s $35 million Texas estate has finally been revealed — and it’s not just a mansion, it’s a home built with all 11 of his children in mind. Hidden behind the headlines of rockets, cars, and AI, the estate shows a softer, rarely seen side of the billionaire: the devoted father. Sources close to the family say every corner of the property was carefully designed for his kids — from sprawling play areas and private study rooms to futuristic tech woven seamlessly into daily life. It’s a striking contrast to his public image, offering a glimpse of Musk’s private world where family comes first. The revelation has fans and critics alike buzzing with curiosity.
Elon Musk wants to one day colonize Mars; but in the meantime, he’s focused on putting humans on Earth—having fathered at least 11 children with three different women, most of whom he reportedly wants to raise in a sprawling compound in Austin, Texas.
The founder has made no secret of his concerns about the declining birth rate in the United States, declaring in a July 2022 post shared on X (which he owns) that “the declining birth rate is the greatest danger civilization has faced to date.”
Musk, who is worth an estimated $270 billion according to Forbes, appears to be on a personal mission to stave off this so-called crisis by having as many children as possible—having welcomed 12 since 2002. His first child died of sudden infant death syndrome at just 10 weeks old.
And now, according to the New York Times, he has big plans to bring all of his children under one roof, with the newspaper reporting that the businessman has purchased three mansions in the Texas city, with the aim of having “his children and two of their mothers live on adjacent properties.”
The article says Musk has “told people close to him in recent months” that he believes the arrangement will allow his young children to “become a part of each other’s lives,” while also allowing the SpaceX founder to “schedule time with them.”
While Musk’s alleged real estate purchases in Austin remain secret, the Times claims he owns a 14,400-square-foot Tuscan-style mansion in the city, adding that he also “helped buy” a six-bedroom property right behind it.
The total cost of the properties is “about $35 million,” the source said.
Security outside the property is reportedly beefed up whenever Musk is rumored to be in town.
He is also said to spend at least some of his time in Austin—where Tesla is headquartered—at another mansion, a 10-minute walk from his new home.
The Times now reports that only one of the three women who are said to have had children with Musk lives at the properties—Shivon Zilis, the chief executive of another of his companies, Neuralink.
It’s unclear which mother Musk has in mind as a future roommate; however, his former partner, Grimes, whose real name is Claire Boucher, is known to have lived in Austin for at least a few years during their relationship.
Musk and Grimes welcomed three children together between 2020 and 2022 and have sparked fierce controversy over their names: 4-year-old X Æ A-Xii, known as “X”; 2-year-old Exa Dark Sideræl, known as “Y”; and Techno Mechanicus, born secretly in 2022 and known as “Tau”.
However, Grimes and Musk are currently locked in a legal battle over custody, so it’s unclear whether she’ll ever agree to join the apartment complex he’s proposed.
After the tragic death of his first child, Musk welcomed five more children with his first wife, Justine Wilson: transgender daughter Vivian, with whom he has lost contact, and her twin brother Griffin, both now 20; and triplets Saxon, Damian, and Kai.
Following their divorce, Musk had a highly publicized relationship with British actress Talulah Riley, whom he married and divorced twice. The couple have no children.
He secretly welcomed twins with Zilis in 2021, then confirmed in 2024 that they had secretly conceived a third child. The names of the three children have not been revealed.
The SpaceX owner is obsessed with declining birth rates and has often spoken out about the issue on X, the social media company he owns.
“Childbirth should be considered a national emergency,” he posted in June. Another post read, “I’m doing my best to encourage more people to become parents and ideally have three or more children, so that humanity can thrive.”
Even while campaigning for Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, Musk moved many of his businesses to Austin.
Musk has publicly donated his DNA to several other people, including Taylor Swift after she endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for president in September. After she signed her Instagram post “Childless Cat Lady,” Musk told X: “Well done Taylor… you win… I’ll give you a baby and protect your cat with my life.”
The billionaire reportedly donated $75 million to a pro-Trump super PAC he formed in just three months, focused on encouraging voter turnout in potentially the most competitive states.
Interestingly, news of Musk’s Austin home buying spree comes just a few years after he made the shocking decision to sell “almost all of my tangible assets,” including multiple properties.
In a series of tweets posted to X in 2020, Musk shared that he planned to “own no homes.”
A year later, he revealed that he had moved into a $50,000 tiny home at the SpaceX launch site in Boca Chica, Texas, posting on X: “My primary home is actually a $50,000 house in Boca Chica/Starbase that I rent from SpaceX. But it’s pretty awesome.”
