Less than a week ago, the NBA news cycle was set ablaze by the report from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski about the Los Angeles Lakers targeting UConn’s Dan Hurley to be the new head coach of the storied franchise.

With all signs pointing to the Lakers bringing in first-timer and former player JJ Redick to be Darvin Ham’s successor on the sideline, this new report from Wojnarowski, which dropped in the middle of the night on the West Coast, took everyone by surprise.

It was a shocking development, to say the least, and a promising outlook for the Lakers, with the coaching market drying up in terms of big-name candidates.

Unfortunately for the Lakers, it wasn’t meant to be with Hurley deciding to stay with the Huskies rather than make the jump to the NBA with one of the most prestigious franchises in professional sports.

In the aftermath of Hurley’s decision, many believe the Lakers are scrambling to find their new head coach, but that doesn’t seem to be the case, according to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, via “The Pat McAfee Show.”

“The Lakers aren’t desperate, and they’ve still got a lot of things on their side,” Windhorst said.

With Hurley no longer an option, the consensus seems to be that the Lakers will go after Redick or James Borrego once again, but as Windhorst mentioned, if Los Angeles really wanted Borrego, they wouldn’t have let him go through a two-day interview process with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
