Inter Miami is reportedly looking to sign Marcelo for the next season as the Brazilian left-back’s contract with Real Madrid is set to expire on June 30, 2022. Given Marcelo’s significant drop in performance over the past two seasons due to injuries and his advancing age—he turned 33 on June 12—Miami is keen to convince him to reach an amicable agreement with Madrid at the end of this season.

Marcelo, the vice-captain of Real Madrid, is determined not to become a liability for the club he has served for over 14 years. Real Madrid has already prepared for his potential departure by promoting Miguel Gutiérrez from their Castilla team and considering a re-signing of Sergio Reguilón from Tottenham if requested by the next coach.
A notable factor in this potential move is Marcelo’s relationship with David Beckham, owner of Inter Miami. The two played together at Real Madrid in 2007 and have maintained a good friendship since. Beckham aims to enhance Inter Miami’s brand by attracting renowned players, and Marcelo’s impressive resume, including four Champions League titles, would certainly contribute to that goal.

While Marcelo would likely have to accept a reduced salary—given his current net earnings of over €8 million at Madrid—Beckham’s financial resources could make the offer attractive. Additionally, the prospect of relocating to Miami, with its appealing climate and vibrant culture, is an enticing consideration for Marcelo and his family, especially as he fondly remembers his upbringing on the beaches of Rio de Janeiro. This combination of personal relationships and lifestyle factors could make a move to Inter Miami a compelling option for Marcelo.
