‘It was a complicated match’: Flick reveals why he replaced Yamal with Ferran against Monaco
Lamine Yamal scored his first goal in the UEFA Champions League in Barcelona’s 2-1 loss to AS Monaco.
The Spaniard was arguably the Blaugrana’s best player on the night. Despite that, he was taken off in the 80th minute and replaced by Ferran Torres.
When asked after the match why he substituted Yamal when Barca were trailing and seeking a goal, Hansi Flick answered: “Lamine tried everything today. It was a complicated match for him. We replaced him thinking about Sunday.”
It seems that the German gaffer took off Yamal to protect him from potential injury or being worn out after what was an exhausting match for the winger.
Unfortunately for Flick, Feran couldn’t really make much of an impact in the last 10/15 minutes or earn Barca a point.
