Ali Campbell, the lead singer of reggae-pop band UB40, was set to headline the Uptown Festival in Earlham Park, Norwich, but was unable to perform due to a sudden illness.
Earlier today, a statement was posted on the band’s Instagram account, informing fans of the situation. The announcement read: “We are sorry to announce that UB40 featuring Ali Campbell will be unable to perform today in Norwich. Ali was this morning unexpectedly taken ill and as a result cannot travel to a show that he was so looking forward to perform at. Ali is expected to make a full recovery and he and the band look forward to continuing with his Endless Summer World Tour 2024.”

In Earlham Park, Norwich, there’s an Uptown Festival with a line-up of performers that includes Earth, Wind & Fire Experience with Al McKay Allstars, The Christians, Craig Charles Funk & Soul Club, and Martin Kemp: Back to the 80s DJ Live. On Sunday, June 9, 2024, the event is open from midday to 10 p.m.; admittance closes at 6 p.m., and there is no possibility of re-entry.
Social media users vented their dismay, with one calling it a “massive con” after shelling out £60 for a VIP ticket to see UB40 play at 8:30 p.m. “Will we get a refund if we haven’t attended because of this?” inquired a different participant.
With over 50 hits in the UK hits Chart and over 70 million albums sold, UB40 has had a remarkable career.
VIP tickets are £60, while general admission tickets are £43 for adults and £16.80 for children. It’s yet unknown if anybody impacted by the cancelation would receive reimbursements.
At NR4 7TQ, Earlham Park is the address where the Uptown Festival is held. The primary act’s no-show has left ticket buyers dissatisfied, but the organizers have not yet disclosed any information on reimbursements or any compensation.
