Eight injured Barcelona players and their potential return dates

Barcelona have had an amazing start to the Hansi Flick era as they comfortably sit atop of the La Liga table after nine matches.

This is even more impressive when you consider the fact that the gaffer has not had his entire squad at his disposal even once since taking over.

Barca have been struggling with some injuries all through Flick’s tenure. Some injuries happened before he arrived and others in Barca’s matches this season.

Here we look at the current injured Barcelona players and when they can potentially return to action.

Fermin Lopez: Fermin is working hard on recovering from the muscle injury suffered on international duty. He is going to get some time to work hard on his recovery in the current international window and make his return after the break.

Potential return date: vs Sevilla (20 October)

Dani Olmo: Olmo sustained an injury in Barca’s big win over Girona last month. But he is determined to make his return before the upcoming El Clasico against Real Madrid and should be back soon after the October international window.

Potential return date: vs Real Madrid (27 October)

Gavi: The Spaniard could make his long-awaited return against Sevilla after looking very sharp in Barca’s training sessions recently. He does not seem to have any more pain in his knee and could play a key role in the Clasico too.

Potential return date: vs Sevilla (20 October)

Ronald Araujo: Araujo has not been able to play for Barca ever since sustaining a hamstring injury during the Copa America 2024 campaign. But he has recently been spotted in Barca training working on his own as he gears up for his return. Even though Araujo could be match-fit by November, but Barca are going to have to register him into the La Liga squad for him to play.

Potential return date: Unknown

Ferran Torres: Ferran picked up an injury in Barca’s recently win over Alaves and the hamstring issue is going to force him to miss many games. He could make his return after the November international break.

Potential return date: December

Andreas Christensen: The Danish centre-back has not played any part under Flick either after sustaining a nasty ankle injury in pre-season. He’s unlikely to be able to play in 2024 anymore and could play a part in the second half of the 2024/25 campaign.

Potential return date: January 2025

Marc Bernal: After having an impressive breakthrough under the German gaffer, Bernal was extremely unfortunate to get injured early in the campaign. His knee injury won’t let him play any part this season.

Potential return date: July 2025

Marc-Andre ter Stegen: The Barca captain’s season was also ended by the horrible knee injury he sustained in the win over Villarreal last month. The Blaugrana have already register Wojciech Szczesny in place of him in their squad as Ter Stegen won’t play any part this season.
