The “Always On My Mind” singer missed the show in Mansfield, Massachusetts on July 2nd. However, he finally returned to the stage for his annual Fourth of July picnic held in Camden, New Jersey, two days later. According to Billboard, it was the first time in over a decade that the annual event was held outside Texas. Maren Morris also performed.

Willie Nelson Looks Frail On Stage

Willie Nelson’s fans were overjoyed to see him on stage again. However, according to Closer Weekly, his family is concerned for his health.

“His recent illness took the wind out of him, and many feel his return to touring was a bit premature but there’s no talking sense to Willie when he’s got a blazing fire under him.”

The source noted that the stage can be a dangerous place with cords and cables everywhere, especially for someone Willie Nelson’s age. According to the CDC, falls are one of the leading causes of death in people older than 65.

Willie Nelson’s team took to Instagram to share his triumphant return to the stage on July 4th. A crew member can be seen walking alongside a frail Willie Nelson as he heads to the front of the stage.

Family Fears He’s In A ‘Bad Way’

Despite his age, Willie Nelson is determined to keep touring as long as he can. He usually performs sitting down to due to a bad back and age. However, the insider told Closer that the singer’s family isn’t sure how much longer he will be about to tour.

“He’s got his CBD oils and other remedies for his aches and pains, but it’s clearly not enough, and that’s troubling for his family and friends. His health has been in a bad way for quite a while, and everyone’s worried it will be the death of him if he doesn’t slow down.”

The Outlaw Music Festival is scheduled to run through September. John Cougar Mellencamp is slated to replace Robert Plant and Alison Krauss in the lineup in late July.
